We are told his wars drained Bactria of vital manpower, and eventually led to a great decline when Eucratides himself was assassinated by his own son; to compound the tragedy, the king's body was defiled by his murderous son, who drove over it with a chariot and cast it away unburied.

Euthydemus was allegedly a native of Magnesia and possible Satrap of Sogdiana, who overturned the dynasty of Diodotus of Bactria and became king of Bactria about 230 BC according to Polybius.
But Antiochus saw that he was not able to subdue Bactria and Sogdiana, and so in 206 concluded a peace with Euthydemus, in which he recognized him as king, also promising to betroth one of his daughters to Euthydemus' son Demetrius.
There exist many coins of Euthydemus, portraying him as a young, middle-aged and old man. Some of them could be memorative issues by his son and a later king, Agathocles.

Demetrius, Greek king of Bactria, is a legend as well as an enigma.
However, scarcity of sources make historians unsure about chronology, and most likely the coins of Demetrius refer to two kings, the second of which is by default assumed to be son of the first.
Other Bactrian kings like Pantaleon, Agathocles and Antimachus may also have belonged to the same dynasty and period, but their precise relationship remains unveiled.
