In the deep blue waters of the Dodecanese and in the North East of the body of South Sporades, is situated the Agathonisi island, surrounded by other smaller uninhibited islands like Kounelonisi, Katsagani, Neronisi, Strongily, Pitta etc. It's the northeast island of Thothekanisa group and it's 8 nautical miles from the Micrasiatian coasts.
The length of the island is 7 kilometers from the East to the west, the width 3 kilometers and the length of its coast is about 32 kilometers.
The name we use today, Agathonisi, was given by a teacher, papa-Giannis Panagiotou (a priest), who was teaching in Agathonisi during the second and third decade of our century; he came from the island of Fourni.

Its name was given by a teacher priest Gianni Panagiotou, who came from the island Fourni and had taught in the island during the second and third decade of our century.

The site is composed by three island groups, Arkoi, Leipsoi, and Agathonisi, consisting of one main inhabited island and of a number of small islets, around them as well as the isolated islets lying easternwards of the main islands of Leros and Kalymnos.
