Age of Bronze is based on events that happened a long time ago, but it's interesting how this issue in particular and the story events in general have parallels in the modern world.
Shanower does an excellent job in this issue of showing how fractious and delicate the alliance of Achaens is, and how their first attempt at attacking Troy has damaged the loyalty of their soldiers and generals, but he also shows the effects that the war efforts have had at home.
Age of Bronze fulfills an important role within Image comics and within the industry, showing that serious history can be told in comics form as much as it can in textbooks or classes.

The CHUD.COM Message Boards - Most insane Silver and Bronze Age comics
In the Incredibles thread I mentioned that I thought the Silver Age was home to some of the craziest, most surreal comic books ever invented.
During the Golden Age comics were still finding their feet, and around the mid 80s they started to get "respectable" (or else be deliberately insane, which doesn't count) but I've always loved just how nutty some of these Silver Age comics could get, given a medium with almost no restrictions.
Courtesy of "Gone and Forgotten", here's the greatest comic book cover of all time and the funniest single panel of a comic I have ever seen.

Shanower continues to deliver a fascinating period piece about warfare during the Greek ages that still has all the pomp and circumstance of fiction, hitting a balance that all too few seem able to when mining this rich vein of story material.
This issue in particular focuses on one of the aspects of Age of Bronze that absolutely captivates me, the way that the gods are used in these pages.
The resulting balanced approach makes the presence of the gods in Age of Bronze seem possible without killing the realism, because it's easy to believe that these characters let themselves in for self-fulfilling prophecies when they believe they have angered or pleased the gods.
