Ages of Myst - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Myst Island is one of the most famous Ages in the story of Atrus.
In Myst (and also realMYST), the skies of Mechanical are quite blue, which poses interesting questions about the fate of the Pirates, and their connections to Sirrus and Achenar, since none of Atrus' surviving journals detail any further interaction between him and the Pirates.
The Rime Age was an uninhabited Age of ice and snow that Atrus wrote in order to work with some crystals he had found that had some of the same properties as linking books.

The Age of J'nanin was written by Atrus as the hub for his lesson Ages, Edanna, Voltaic, Amateria, and Narayan.
The Age itself is an island, apparently composed of basalt columns (somewhat resembling the Giant's Causeway), set in the middle of a vast, dark ocean.
The name of the Age itself is presumably a reference to the Voltaic pile, an early electric battery.

, ergo we can't include 'quandaryheader.html' like we do elsewhere -->
I thought Myst was a bit limited, playing it as I did after Riven, but was captivated and excited by the 3D real time world of realMyst.
To complete each Age you will need to solve puzzles and overcome situations, plus you have to find 7 Journey Cloths These are cloth handprints sprinkled throughout the Age, and whilst some are out in the open, this aspect of the game was really no more than an exercise in 'find the hidden items'.
As wonderful looking as the Ages might be, and as much as I admit that careful exploration is an important and fundamental part of the Myst (and other adventure) games, I thought this aspect degenerated into an annoying treasure hunt that in the end added little but artificial length.

Yeesha claims that solving her tests is supposed to teach you something, but in most of the ages, there really isn't much to see besides the scenery.
The Myst universe has moved to full 3D for the first time (excluding one failed remake of the original Myst), and the graphics are stunning.
The desert age and fortress ages are a bit dull, but the garden age -- with its fanciful plants -- and the forest age -- with its purple-tinted skies and otherwordly glow -- both provide unique and interesting environments.

Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Impressions - PC News at GameSpot
Myst purists will still have the option of changing the in-game perspective to a first-person view to give Uru a more-traditional feel.
While Real Myst was technically the first game in the series with a real-time 3D engine, it's safe to say that Uru's implementation promises to be a lot cleaner, as the game is designed from the ground up with 3D exploration in mind, including running, jumping, and climbing.

To the left of this closet there is a book case with a book describing the four ages: Teledahn (the one with the mushrooms), Gahreesen (the fortresses one), Kadish Tolesa (the one with the "clock" mechanisms) and Eder Gira / Eder Kemo (Volcano and Garden ages).
Throughout the game the symbol associated with Kadish is a tree, you start the age in a tree room with fallen leaves, trees are what you see most in this Age and the several representations for tree are present in the paintings of the Gallery and in the spinning triangle for column one.
When taking note of the symbols on the floor also take note of the Age to which they are associated, that is the Age through which you walked through to get to the symbol you are standing on.

 Uru: Ages Beyond Myst
The original Myst game created a frenzy with fans across the world, and introduced a never-before heard of universe that is as significant to computer interactive entertainment, as the Star Wars saga is to film and Tolkien's Middle Earth novels are to literature.
Myst's eerie, moody atmosphere, the serene settings, and the immersion in a completely new world that allowed players to relax and enjoy the game, combined with an emphasis on leisure exploration of the worlds, all quickly resulted in a sales phenomenon that most all other game developers dream of replicating.
Myst fans will recognize the same high degree of cryptic, confusing state you are in when you first begin the game.

Four Fat Chicks -- Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Review
The first two, Myst and Riven, were designed by Cyan, a company formed by the brothers Rand and Robyn Miller.
Exile continued the point-and-click tradition of Myst and Riven, with the addition of node-based panning instead of largely static slideshow-style screens; the overall feel of the game, though, was pretty much the same as its predecessors.
After a relatively brief introductory Age that takes place on Earth, in New Mexico, to be specific, you get your own little Age called Relto, a platform in the sky with a hut and a hill.

As is the MYST tradition, you have a huge amount of exploration available to you in Uru.
The Ages are the mushroom world of Teledahn, the garden world of Eder Gira and the sand world of Eder Kemo, the fortress world of Gahreesen, and the forest world of Kadish Tolesa.
After visiting an Age, you receive a linking book allowing you to transport across Ages, and you are free to return to an Age you have already been to (you may return to the beginning of an Age or to the last journey cloth you touched) if you want to explore some more.

Hardcore fans of the MYST series, especially those who have read the novels and completed the previous games, will start with a better sense of what is going on, but Miller emphasizes that you won't have difficulty in getting into the game quickly.
This avatar is necessary because this time around players will explore the world of MYST in the third-person (a first-person option is under consideration, but the team feels that a third-person view is the way Uru is meant to be experienced).

Thankfully, in other ages, this is a bit less noticeable and far easier to deal with, and, again, thankfully, the aforementioned control issue and this are really the only two annoyances you’ll have to deal with here.
By traveling throughout the ages, you’ll find upgrades to Relto, and soon your hut will be a house, and your clothing cupboards filled with more than just a few choices of fashionable attire.
However, most Myst fans aren’t part of the “gamers at large,” so it’s understandable some concern with the taxing of your system may arise, thankfully, Uru is fairly scaleable, and should do well on systems even two years old.
