  Ageusia
Ageusia (pronounced ay-GOO-see-uh) is the loss of taste functions of the tongue, particularly the inability to detect sweetness, sourness, bitterness, and saltiness.
True ageusia is relatively rare compared to the milder forms of taste loss: hypogeusia and dysgeusia.
Ageusia can also be caused by medicinal side-effects from Antirheumatic Drugs such as Penicillamine, Antiproliferative drugs such as Cisplatin, ACE Inhibitors, and other drugs including Azelastine, Clarithromycin and Zopiclone.

 Sensory Malfunction: Taste
Cacogeusia, ageusia, hypogeusia and hypergeusia all come under this general heading.
In short, ageusia occurs when there is no data flowing from the tongue to the brain.
Rather than a complete lack of signal from the tongue to the brain, cacogeusia could almost be described as all five taste signals, permanently on and mixing.

A FOURTH CASE OF ANOSMIA, WITH CACOSMIA AND AGEUSIA, TREATED WITH ANTISTRESS AND ANTIDEPRESSANT DRUG THERAPY.</
It reports the case of a 53-years-old woman, already depressed, with high blood tension, headache and easiness to vagotonic cardiac answers, which after a flu episode suffered subsequently from anosmia, ageusia (trouble of the taste), and cacosmia (sensation of bad odours).
The first two months of antistress and antidepressant drug therapy allowed the disappearance of the cacosmia, the reduction of the ageusia, the decreasing of vagotonic answers, and a modest improvement of the sleep.
I shall give here the report of a new case of anosmia, with cacosmia (sensation of bad odours) and ageusia (loss of the taste), with quite singular features.

We describe a patient with carotid dissection and ipsilateral ageusia in the anterior two thirds of the tongue, presumably from a lesion of the chorda tympani.
Ageusia in carotid dissection is explained by the close anatomic relation of the internal carotid artery and the chorda tympani in the short petrous bone.
However, since extension of the space-occupying, dissecting intramural hematoma into the carotid channel as in our patient occurs infrequently--a probable precondition for the chorda tympani lesion--loss of taste is accordingly very rare.
