Aggies silently walk from all over campus as the lights on campus go dark and hymns play from Albritton Tower, and gather in front of the Academic Building.
Aggie Bonfire is a tradition since 1909 in which students build a massive bonfire before the annual game against The University of Texas.
The Aggie spirit is exemplified in sports with traditions such as the 12th Man and Yell Leaders.

WACO - Texas A&M University's Aggie Replant, an annual student-run tree-planting program, was the recipient of the "Student Project" award at the 2000 Texas Community Forestry Awards ceremony here.
Replant was recognized for giving Texas A&M students the opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment for the past decade, John Giedraitis, state urban forestry coordinator with the Texas Forest Service, said.
Replant was among over a dozen of organizations that were recognized at the ceremony.

The Aggie Bonfire was a long-lasting tradition at Texas A&M University before a tragic accident in 1999.
("t.u." is a derogatory nickname used by Aggies to describe their rivals in Austin.) An orange outhouse (orange being the colors of the University of Texas) was placed on top of the bonfire stack, painted with derogatory statements against their rivals.
A commission put together by Texas A&M University discovered that a number of factors led to the collapse of the bonfire, including "excessive internal stresses" on the logs and "inadequate containment strength," where the wiring used to tie the logs together was not strong enough.

Muster gained national recognition in 1942 when newspapers reported that a Muster ceremony was held by 24 Aggies on the island of Corregidor in the Philippines just days before the land fell to the Japanese.
At noon, all Aggies converge at the Academic Plaza to enjoy food, friendship and entertainment with a barbecue, reminiscent of the early years at Texas AandM.
Replant began in support of Bonfire in 1991 and has since become a tradition of its own.

Texas AandM University’s Replant, designed to replace the trees cut down for the school’s annual Bonfire, instead became a memorial service Saturday to honor the 12 young Aggies who were killed.
The 12 fallen Aggies honored Saturday were Miranda Denise Adams, Christopher D. Breen, Michael Stephen Ebanks, Jeremy Richard Frampton, Jamie Lynn Hand, Christopher Lee Heard, Timothy Doran Kerlee Jr., Lucas John Kimmel, Bryan A. McClain, Chad A. Powell, Jerry Don Self and Nathan Scott West.
Replant began in 1990 when former student Scott Hantman created an environmental issues committee to raise questions about the clear-cutting of trees.

 Bonfire Traditions
The number of replanted trees is often significantly less than the number cut for the bonfire.
In the past, Replant has been held at Lake Somerville, but this year the Replant committee chose to move it to the Bryan-College Station area in an effort to increase participation and satisfaction of the participants.
Dan Houchard, Replant Tree Team Committee member and a senior horticulture major, said the trees planted by Replant in the past have had a low survival rate.

Aggies were dedicated and united from the stories Blaire, a political science junior, told me as we sat in my house in Dallas every winter and summer break.

Ross Margraves, Chairman of the Board, told us at the last meeting that they were under severe pressure from the State legislature to make the change.
He also assured us that funding from the Permanent University Fund will not be diluted because of the name change and that the Aggie Ring belongs to the Association of Former Students, and therefore could only be granted to the other schools with our approval.
