		Agism is action based on the belief that one age group is inferior to another.
		Agism intensifies all of the other 'isms." During the long period of childhood (itself a relatively modern phenomenon), we keep our young dependent, helpless, and almost totally devoid of rights while we socialize (brainwash) them into rigid patterns of behavior according to class, sex and race.
		For women, agism intensifies all of the atrocities of sexism, racism and class oppression.

		Some employers, notably B and Q, W. Smith, the Nationwide building society and Sainsbury, recognise the waste produced by agism, and are starting to take advantage of the untapped potential in the unemployed aged 40 to 50 who have been overlooked by other employers in favour of younger workers.
		There is a great need to raise public awareness of agism to the same level as that of discrimination on any other grounds, such as gender or race.

		Agism is the discrimination and prejudice against elderly people based on mythologies about the aging process as well as misconceptions about youth, well-rounded ignorance, and stereotypes.
		Agism is structurally operative by enforcement of mandatory retirement age.

		There seems an excess of Golden Agism, where lost souls want to flee in to a different historical epoch thinking that somehow it was better.
		In fact Golden Agism has probably been with us since Antiquity.
		I imagine that if you went back to Pericles' Athens there would probably be somebody droning on all dewy eyed about the decline of Classical Greece and that there was some time in the heroic past where people felt more alive, and their lives had more meaning and purpose.
