Aglarond - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aglarond was one of the two fortresses built by Gondor guarding the Fords of Isen, Angrenost (later Isengard) being the other.
Like Angrenost to the north it was initially well guarded, but as the population of Calenardhon (the later Rohan) dwindled it was increasingly less supplied and deemed unimportant, until it was only ruled by a hereditary small guard who intermarried much with Dunlendings.
Gimli become known as 'the Lord of the Glittering Caves', although this new realm was presumably under the overlordship of Thorin Stonehelm, his kinsman and heir of the lordship of all Durin's Folk.

The Simbul - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
She is the queen of Aglarond and the sage Elminster's lover.
It is said that Mystra herself revealed to her the fact that she was one of the Chosen, after one of her consorts (allegedly a wizard from another plane) perished.
She took the name "the Simbul" from a deity of the primitive human tribes that inhabited the Yuirwood before the elves there, and whose runes can still be found deep within the wood (the goddess known as the Simbul was absorbed as an aspect of Labelas Enoreth).

Aglarond is situated on a peninsula about 540 miles long that extends into the Sea of Fallen Stars.
Aglarond's weather is fairly moderate, since no place in the land--even in the heart of the Yuirwood forest that covers the interior--is more than ninety miles from the sea, and most of its cities are located on the rocky coasts.
Aglarond is isolated from the rest of Faerun by the plateau of Thay to the east and the Sea of Fallen Stars on three other sides.

Now, Aglarond is one of the Nations of the Compact, the ten nations, nine now, that are all that remain of the Hundred Kingdoms that fell when Ran called down the sun to burn the land, to scour it and consume it until no green thing lived across it.
The people of that place do not live in cities as they once did, but for the greater part of the year live a wandering life in small bands that move from waterhole to waterhole, careful never to take too much lest the Earth punish them for their greed and take back her gift.
Perhaps the King of Aglarond had gone to Oab, and Sedra, and seen the ocean, but the band had no water-rights to land by the sea, and had never seen it, so to them it was as if the Earth, as if Suyol had broken open, her blood poured out as water upon the sand.
