The PNCC was founded in the late 1800s in North America by Polish Roman Catholics resentful of diocesan ownership of their parishes and the dominance of the Roman Catholic Church in North America at that time by German and Irish prelates.
As a member of the Union of Utrecht the PNCC rejects a number of Roman Catholic dogmas insisting that they are theological novelties, including the infallibility of the Pope, the Immaculate Conception of the Mary the Ever-Virgin and Mother of God, and original sin.
Although the PNCC has entered into tentative negotiations with the Orthodox Church in North America, no union has resulted due to the PNCC's refusal to abandon several Western concepts (including the Western Church's view of the Holy Trinity and of the sacraments).

Aglipayanism and the Philippine Independence Church
At its zenith in 1904 the Philippine Independent Church was reliably estimated to have had a membership of between one-quarter and one-third of the Christian population.
According to his doctrine, which was approved formally by Aglipay, their church was founded principally to worship the one true God and to liberate the human conscience from "all scientific error, exaggeration and scruple." The rejected the doctrine of the Trinity as well as the possibility of miracles, including those mentioned in the New Testament.
They asserted that the rank-and-file Aglipayans held to the traditional teachings, that immutability is a characteristic quality of religious truths, and further that the new doctrines were contrary to the faith that the leaders of the Aglipayan church publicly swore to preserve.

Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro - Editorial: Contradiction to claims
THE death of an Aglipayan prelate in Tarlac City is a serious blow not only to the peace and order situation in that area but also to the claim by the PNP leadership of its success in the resolution of murders on militant leaders and media practitioners.
Well, as one local Aglipayan church official said here the church leader's death comes even as the military accuses the Aglipayan church or the Iglesia Filipiniana Independiente of harboring communists within its ranks, a charge also leveled against militant groups.
Following that line it would seem that the Aglipayan prelate's death is yet another significant indication of the national government's speculated crackdown on militant figures or groups that dared to criticize the Arroyo administration for its crimes and questioned legitimacy before the Filipino people.

In the early part of the conquista, the Spanish friars were regarded as champions of the indios, which paved the way toward the mass conversion of the native population.
The bulk of Aglipayans are concentrated in the Ilocos, the home region of its founder.

Other measurements, such as how many churches or meeting places a faith group owns or how many congregations/meeting groups there are, can also be instructive, but are usually not used as a measure of overall size.
This might cause some people to think the church's figures are inaccurate, or it might seem like we are being harsh to ignore their figure and estimate such a low one.
