Private Moon Studios developers of Agon - Interview: Just Adventure - Reviews Walkthroughs and Adventure News!
The story of Agon is set at the turn of the century but in some of its details it reaches as far back as the Middle Ages or even farther.
Agon contains optional elements, tasks that have multiple solutions, details and smaller stories that are useless in solving the aim but are very important to build the atmosphere; what is more, we are planning two good solutions for episode four.
Agon, in my opinion, is of a mid-level difficulty; it does not make much sense to build in levels of difficulty.

AGON - Mr. Bill's Adventureland Review
AGON, in production for a year before the release of Episode One, is their first project.
According to the developers, AGON was originally conceived as a large group of culturally driven board games, supplemented by a bare hint of plot.
But given the varied backgrounds of the AGON team, it is not surprising that they have a strong talent for presentation, musical composition and film quality graphics.

The 'Simonides Agon' as the Pivotal Discourse in Plato's Protagoras
That this is the greater implication of the Simonides agon, as realised more fully in the Republic and Phaedo, is made evident from the structure of the concluding arguments of the Protagoras on the nature of arete.
For example, the agon is dismissed outright by Guthrie (1975) for doing "nothing to advance the main argument," by Weingartner (1973) as an "entertaining digression into 'comic relief," and by Grube (1958) as simply where Socrates "outsophisticates the Sophists".

Originally AGON was going to be an entirely non-linear game, but what is a blessing of the online distribution method on the one hand, is a shortcoming on the other: it would be very complicated technically to arrange that everyone can download and install episodes in the order they wish to.
AGON CLUB is also the place for chatting, exchange of information or even influencing what should happen in later episodes.
We are using an engine we developed specifically for AGON, scenes are explored through first person view 800×600 resolution panoramic pictures, living persons and animals are depicted in real time 3D and other similar 3D effects (lights, natural phenomena, reflections etc.) and puzzles are integrated in the rather life-like surroundings.

Agon is a pure adventure game, and I’m not saying “traditional” because its parameters differ strongly from the usual “boxed” releases, primarily in the fact that it’s not one game.
In short, I could say, everyone can choose their engine, way of development for the type of game they have in mind; we voted for the traditional pre-rendered method, which is quite a challenge.

 Bryn Mawr Classical Review 2002.06.42
In his second chapter D. proposes a very broad definition indeed (53-5): an agon is a scene dominated by two parties whose speeches articulate their opposing viewpoints; the scene consists of competing speeches with choral comments, while the introduction and conclusion of the scene are built up from smaller speeches, stichomythia, distichomythia, and antilabe.
In the Abrechnungsagon ('agon of reckoning') two figures, whom D. calls the adikoumenos and the adikêsas, argue over a wrong allegedly inflicted on the former by the latter.
In the Beratungsagon ('agon of consultation'), by contrast, the two figures who face one another take the roles of hamartanôn and parainetês, with the latter trying to persuade the former to abandon a specific plan of action.

But unfortunately, a beautiful, well-scored game isn’t necessarily a good game, and I will say right now that I think AGON is going to be one of those games that most people will either love or hate, mainly because of the navigation and game-play scheme.

 - ROH Stravinsky Staged Study Day 7th April 2001
When she came to London in 1972 to teach Agon to a cast that included Anthony Dowell, Wendy Ellis and Alfreda Thorogood, she famously stormed out of a rehearsal studio at Talgarth Rd. after a violent disagreement over tempi with George Balanchine, who had come to watch.
Neary, who describes Agon as “a challenge to technique and musicality”, has given tapes of the score to her dancers so that they do not internalise a version for rehearsal piano, that sounds altogether different when played by a full orchestra.
Whatever may be the case with 'Agon', his wider point was that Balanchine was over-ready to set choreography to scores by Stravinsky even if this went against (in John Drummond's opinion) the grain of the music.

A Ballet for Balanchine (Imagination): American Treasures of the Library of Congress
Igor Stravinsky's ballet Agon (meaning "contest") was first danced on December 1, 1957, by the New York City Ballet, with choreography by another Russian emigre artist, George Balanchine (1904-1983).
Agon is the third of three ballet collaborations between Stravinsky (1882-1971) and Balanchine, the other two being Apollon Musagete (1928) and Orpheus (1948).
Agon itself progresses from a basically diatonic, fanfarelike opening through a series of increasingly chromatic movements to a "Pas de deux" that speaks the language of the late, serial Stravinsky.
