Nikolaos Plastiras - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The majority of the work on these two projects was performed by the residents of the Agrafa themselves, known as Agrafiotes.
Lake Plastiras provides a year-round source of water for the people of the Agrafa and an irrigation source to the farmers in the plains of Thessaly.
General Plastiras' investment in his native region has transformed the Agrafa, once one of the poorest and most isolated areas of Greece, into a bustling tourist hub with scenic views which rival the Alpine regions in western Europe.

MULTI ACTIVITY HOLIDAY IN EVRITANIA   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The Agrafa ("unwritten places") is one of the most remote and rural areas in Greece, indeed in all of Europe.
Their fiercely independent spirit is matched by a harsh and forbidding landscape: the central Agrafiotis river valley is surrounded on three sides by a steep 2000-metre wall of mountains, and on its south side it drains via a series of narrow and often impassable gorges into the man-made Lake Kremasta.
From Agrafa, walk along old mule path to Koukouroutzos Col. We may wish to reach the summit of Koukouroutzos (1723 m), which overlooks Agrafa and will allow us to have a last and general round overview of our hiking days.
