Aguadilla derives its name from a name given by the Indians "Guadilla or Guadiya" which means garden.
Among Aguadilla's main attractions you will find the popular "Parque Acuatico Las Cascadas", a modern aquatic theme park, the biggest in the Caribbean and the Merendero, with a beautiful view of the town's bay and the nearby Desecheo islet.

 Aguadilla: Columbus Monument
In 1893 a cross was erected in Aguadilla on the supposed place where Columbus landed in 1493.
Since the Aguadillanos did not re-erect the fallen cross, the Aguadeños took the law into their own hands and raided the fallen cross in Aguadilla and buried parts of it in the sand so it could not be resurrected and proceeded to build their own ten years later, in 1928.
The Aguadilla rebuilt cross was inaugurated in 1937 after the embarrassment of the Aguada cross erection.

EPA originally announced its intention to grant the waiver from secondary treatment at the Aguadilla plant in August 2000, held a public hearing and solicited public comments on the proposal.
Under the federal Clean Water Act, plants like Aguadilla’s that discharge treated sewage directly into the ocean were given the opportunity to apply for waivers from secondary treatment.
In addition to granting a final waiver for the Aguadilla plant, EPA has granted waivers to the Carolina and Arecibo plants, and to the Puerto Nuevo and Bayamon plants, which share a single discharge pipeline to the ocean.

At the fourth centenary of the discovery of Puerto Rico, in 1893, a cross was erected in Aguadilla, the supposed landing place.
This reconstructed Aguadilla Cross is erected in 1937, after the erection of the Aguada cross which is identical in dimension in 1928.
This painting hangs in the foyer-staircase of the Aguadilla city hall commemorating the landing of Columbus on the Puerto Rico shores in 1493.
