I don't know of that connection, but Agwe is a Rada lwa, from Dahomey, who is married to a mermaid, LaSiren, and Freda, another Rada lwa.
One of Agwe's names is Agwe Tawoyo, which I think is the end of one of the Yemaya names.
Agwe is not made, as in Orisha traditions, but one can go in the djevo (initiatory room) with Agwe's point, usually Agwe would be your met tet (head lwa).
