Ahmad and other Mujib loyalist fled the capital after the assassination of Mujib on August 15, 1975.
Ahmad was killed along with Syed Nazrul Islam, A.H.M. Qamaruzzaman and Muhammad Mansur Ali by a group of police and army officers on November 3, 1975.

In liberated Bangladesh, Tajuddin became the victim of Awami League's infighting and lost Mujib's trust, despite the fact that he led the country and the war in exile in Mujib's name.
