Gandhinagar District is an administrative division of Gujarat, India, whose headquarters are at Gandhinagar, the state capital.
Gandhinagar district is bounded by the districts of Sabarkantha to the northeast, Kheda to the southeast, Ahmedabad to the southwest, and Mehsana to the northwest.
Connected to Ahmedabad by the Sartej-Gandhinagar highway, and with Vadodara with the Ahmedabad-Vadodara highway, these three cities form the top population centers and commercial heart of Gujarat and western India.

AHMEDABAD: About 95 per cent students appeared for the secondary and higher secondary board examinations that began in violence-ravaged Gujarat on Thursday amid tight security but a significant section of Muslims boycotted it.
The students and parents were still in trauma of insecurity after a month-long violence in the city and other places of the state, he said about the boycott of the exam, being projected by the Modi government as a sign of return of normalcy in the state.
In Baroda city and rural district, 21,798 students appeared for the examinations which amounted to 98.04 per cent, he said adding that 435 students were absent in exams.

The Ahmedabad Urban Agglomeration area has qualified to be declared a metro city registering a population of 45.19 lakhs in the 2001 census but has fallen behind Bangalore and Hyderabad cities in the race.
Jayant Parimal, the Director of Census Operations in Gujarat, though Ahmedabad urban agglomeration, which included the areas covered by the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority, recorded a growth of 36.44 per cent over the 1991 census, its total population was behind the 56 lakhs recorded in Bangalore and the 53 lakhs in Hyderabad.
The density of population at 258 per one square kilometre area calculated on the basis of the estimated population of the earthquake-affected areas was placed at a comfortable situation.
