The Ahuizotl is greatly feared as an eater of human flesh, and it particularly likes eyes, teeth and nails.
Being a water creature, it uses its tail hand to snatch people walking too close to the water's edge, or fishermen.

Ahuizotl: The bizarre ahuizotl, who grabs sailors with a massive hand on its tail and consumes everything but the eyes, teeth and fingernails of its prey is not, surprisingly, an original creation.
The manticore was said to have the head of a human with a red face and three rows of teeth, the body of a lion and a tail covered in spines (sometimes, the tail is that of a scorpion).
While a neat enough creature, it is a little sad, I think, that the venerable and important folklore on trolls in the north of Europe was not drawn on more in the "standard version" of the troll.

The people the PCs brought the creature back to said that the one they managed to capture was not "fully awakend".
Since then the creatures have been spotted and are spreading much fear.

Concepts of the Ahuizotl, an aztec monster that cries liek a baby to lure you in, pulls you under with the hand on its tail, and then eats your eyes, nails, and teeth.

Note that although there is a Ahuizotl in the Fiend Folio, it seems to be a similar creature with the same name, rather than an updated version of the creature from Fires of Zatal.
The FF version is much smaller and lacks the animated water elemental breath weapon of its Maztican cousin, and it therefore probably different enough to be treated as a separate creature.
