Assuming all conditions which provide the greatest electric signal at Volos but the smallest local deformation, we model the characteristics of the source that is required to generate the SES observed at Volos with a N-S tilt at Galaxidi compatible with our observations.
We suppose, as is usually done for possible earthquake precursors, that the electrotelluric signal results from streaming potentials induced in response to the pore fluid flow accompanying an aseismic creep event near the hypocenter of the upcoming earthquake.
The source of the SES of April 30, 1995, is hence very unlikely to have been located in the hypocentral zone of the 1995 Aigion earthquake, whatever its actual link with the earthquake.

CNRS - A Laboratory Carefully Located on a Fault Line
The south coast of the Gulf, near the city of Aigion, was chosen as the site for this new type of laboratory, because it represents one of the most active seismic zones in all Europe.
Aigion was shaken by an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 in 1995, the fifth event of this magnitude in thirty years for the Corinth gulf.
With installation completed, a 1,000 meter bore well runs down through the Aigion fault, and seismic probes are in place for an ongoing study that will last five or six years, according to François-Henri Cornet.

The final design of the Aigion tunnel is part of the project for the new railway line Corinth - Patra, section from km 75 to km 90, which was awarded to Obermeyer by ERGA O.S.E. The Aigion tunnel is bi-directional and it lies in the area of Aigion (northwest Peloponnese).
Out of the 3520m of total length of the tunnel, the 3250m will be drilled underground, while the sections near the portal areas will be constructed using the cut & cover method.
The construction of the Aigion tunnel is expected to begin within 2005, with a budget of €90m.

A methodological approach was developped to reduce at both global and local scales the tropospheric contributions in the interferograms.
Finally, the corrected interferograms are stacked and averaged to reduce the high-frequency noise still present after the processing and to retrieve a smoothed deformation field related to the 1992 and 1995 earthquakes, expected to be smooth and provided by the offshore locations of the ruptured faults.
The cleaned deformation field related to the Aigion earthquake concerns a N-S 16 km wide by E-W 28 km long band, reaching the maximum value of ~250 +/- 12 mm on Psaromita cape, a limestone mesozoic platform located on the northern side of the gulf, in front of the town of Aigion.

At the westernmost part of the Corinth Rift (Greece), an area of rapid extension and active normal faulting, geomorphological observations reveal the existence and geometry of an active NW-SE trending coastal fault system, which includes the Aigion fault.
We recognize a similar fault pattern on both the coastal range front to the NW of Aigion town and the Holocene fan deltas in front of it.
We interpret this as a result of recent migration of faulting to the hanging wall of the fault system.

To derive cumulative uplift rates, the individual terraces were tentatively correlated with the eustatic sea-level curve, constrained by some direct dating of the deposits blanketing the terraces.
