I would not want the recent death of AileenRaymond to pass without some brief memoir of her work.
In the early seventies, when I was director of York Theatre Royal and Aileen was living in East Yorkshire - I suspect, bored out of her mind - I received a letter in her characteristically neat handwriting asking if there might be any work.
While her marriage to John Mills remained always of importance, it seems to me that AileenRaymond deserves to be remembered as something more than as the first wife of a great star.
His sister Annette Mills (1894–1955) was known for being the partner of the puppet "Muffin", in the BBC Television series Muffin the Mule between 1946 and 1955.
His first wife was the actress AileenRaymond, whom he married in 1927 and divorced in 1941.
