Aimeliik, formerly part of the Trust Territories of the Pacific Islands, is currenly one of the islands in the Palau group, located in the western Pacific Ocean.
It's estimated that less than 350 motor vehicles are currently in use on Aimeliik, and plates are issued for passenger cars, motorcycles, and various state government vehicles.
1984 Aimeliik passenger plate - this brown on white plexiglass issue is one of the type currently in use on the island, but due to be phased out by 1997.

Earlier in Aimeliik, Einstein, another Palauan Neco employee who had come along, told us about a "wing" that he's seen in very shallow water along the eastern shore of Aimeliik, close to the border between Aimeliik and Airai.
After Mark's dive we headed over to a dock near the power plant in southern Aimeliik and picked up a couple of Palauan hunters, Jason and Pat, who had told some folks earlier that they know where there's some aircraft stuff in the mangroves near there.
Sadly, it turns out that the reason for the big family gathering was the death of the daughter's son, whom she'd brought back to Palau to be buried.

The largest of the mission stations founded in 1911 was the one at Aimeliik, which was opened to serve the Pohnpeian exiles resettled there.
For Christmas that year the Pohnpeians at Aimeliik had to travel all the way to Koror, while the Airai and Ngatmel Christians were forced to do without church services altogether.
The church in Ngarchelong that had once served the Chamorro community living in the village of Ngatmel was long gone, as were all the mission buildings in Aimeliik, the temporary home of the Pohnpeian exiles.

The Palau government is planning to construct a recycling plant that will complement the future operation of the national landfill project in Aimeliik.
The new solid waste dump being constructed in Aimeliik is expected to be completed a year and a half from now.
Arurang said the new landfill would have a capacity to receive 100 tons of garbage a day from all of Palau's states.
