Air America was an American airline secretly controlled by the CIA that supplied and supported covert operations in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
Air America pilots were the only known private US corporation employees to operate non-FAA certified military aircraft in a combat role, although many of them were actually military personnel who had been transferred to the airline.
This was not an exaggeration as Air America aircraft flew the many types of cargo to countries such as Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Air America was conceived as a for-profit operation in response to the perception by many liberals that conservative dominance of talk radio--particularly Rush Limbaugh's popularity--gave the Republicans an electoral advantage over the Democrats because it helped the Republicans turn out their political base.
Air America alleged that Multicultural Radio had sold time on their Los Angeles station to both AAR and another party, and claimed that that was why they stopped payment on checks due to Multicultural while AAR investigated.
Air America Radio filed a complaint in New York Supreme Court, charging breach of contract and was briefly granted an injunction to restore the network on WNTD-AM in Chicago.

Air America was a CIA - owned and - operated "air proprietary" during the Cold War against the global menace of communism.
From 1946 to 1976, Civil Air Transport (CAT) and Air America served alongside U.S. and allied intelligence agents and military personnel in the Far East, often in dangerous combat and combat support roles.
CAT and Air America personnel were the first Americans in China and Korea and, after the U.S. military had withdrawn from Vietnam, Air America pilots risked their lives to evacuate the last Americans.

Air America Radio, the liberal network that in 2003-04 received $875,000 in transfers from the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx, announced last night that it had wired $825,000 into an attorney-controlled escrow account for the Bronx nonprofit group.
The Air America radio network's biggest star, Al Franken, and its former chairman, Evan Montvel Cohen, were among the signers of a confidential agreement last November that said the network would repay $875,000 to a Bronx nonprofit organization, the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club.
A lawsuit filed by an owner of radio stations claims that the transfer of ownership of the Air America radio network from Progress Media to Piquant LLC in May 2004 was a "sham" intended to maintain the network's assets while deceiving its creditors, according to documents posted on a blog yesterday.
