Air Force Cross (US) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Originally entitled the “Distinguished Service Cross (Air Force)”, the Air Force Cross was first proposed in 1947 after the creation of the United States Air Force as a separate armed service.
In July 1960, the name of the decoration was officially changed to the Air Force Cross and the first decoration, under the medal’s new name, was awarded during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The Air Force Cross is awarded for extraordinary heroism not justifying the award of the Medal of Honor.

Navy Cross - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Navy Cross is equivalent to the Distinguished Service Cross (Army) and the Air Force Cross (Air Force).
To earn a Navy Cross the act to be commended must be performed in the presence of great danger or at great personal risk and must be performed in such a manner as to render the individual highly conspicuous among others of equal grade, rate, experience, or position of responsibility.
The Navy Cross is a modified cross patée one and a half inches wide (the ends of its arms are rounded whereas a conventional cross patée has arms that are straight on the end).

 4. Should the Air Force bomb the Navy?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
US commanders have not denied that the ICRC warehouses were "civilian objects" and "protected" Red Cross facilities, and so my earlier email about the first attack (on October 16) applies equally to the second attack (on October 26) and documents why these attacks were unlawful even if US commanders believed otherwise at the time: '2.
Yet, it was the Air Force which dropped the most bombs in the second US attack on the three ICRC warehouses (which included the food-supply), using two B-52H bombers from Diego Garcia.
Unlawful bombing by the US Armed Forces — being violent and death-dealing and patently obvious — provokes a particularly intense hatred of the US, a justified sense of injustice, and a resolute, enduring urge for revenge.

Should the Air Force bomb the Navy? (the food-rule)
This result, the negotiators of Protocol-1 (including the US military delegation) agreed, is inhumane and they ordered an end to it 25 years ago, and the nations which have ratified the Protocol agree ( Article-54(2)).
Yet, it was Air Force commanders who targeted the most bombs in the second attack on the ICRC warehouses (which, as Stufflebeem said, they knew to contain food-supplies), tasking two B-52H bombers from Diego Garcia.
Thus, US Air Force commanders violated their standing-orders, as well as Protocol-1, if the food-supply was their objective, as it appears.
