The picture quality is excellent, aside from a bit of minor artifacting seen occasionally in the night time clouds, and a few brief shots of the plane on the ground in Moscow (usually involving blue-green tints which MPEG 2 has difficulty encoding).
Side B contains a full frame version, for those who prefer it (the film was shot in Super 35 and matted for theatrical release, so while the full frame version is a different viewing experience, it does not have the usual 'pan and scan' feel).
And for serious film buffs, a theatrical trailer (of good quality) is available on the disc, as is an interesting commentary track by director Wolfgang Peterson.

Later that evening, Marshall and entourage board the Presidential transport, Air Force One, and prepare to return to Washington (there are actually two specially-modified 747s used by the President, and Air Force One is the callsign used by the plane when the President is aboard either aircraft, or any aircraft for that matter).
The overpowering sense of paralysis by analysis over the lives on Air Force One is conveyed nicely by Glenn Close, as we watch Bennett struggle to avoid the further loss of lives at the hands of the terrorists.
The claustrophobic steady-cam cinematography, first seen in "Das Boot", conveys the confusion aboard Air Force One and the elevated sense of vulnerability as Marshall is stalked by Korshunov's men.

In what has to be one of the most engaging action thrillers in recent years, Harrison Ford stars as U.S. President James Marshall aboard Air Force One when the plane is hijacked by a group of highly skilled terrorists.
This is a man who, throughout the film, commands the respect and loyalty of those around him, and frankly who could blame them.
This is, after all, fiction...and Air Force One doesn't really have an escape pod, and our leaders really aren't this noble in action, and Harrison Ford really isn't the President of the United States...what a shame...

Derivative and preposterous though it may be, Air Force One is given wings by Wolfgang Petersen's canny direction (after this and In the Line of Fire he should be hired by Bill Clinton as an image adviser), Ford's wryly sexy and dyspeptic performance, and the wit and near-hallucinatory verisimilitude of its effects and action sequences.
But not the president -- in one of the film's many brilliant twists, he's managed to elude the kidnappers and is hiding out in the bowels of the plane.
With laugh-out-loud absurdity balanced by its gasp-out-loud thrills, Air Force One at least beats the campaign-finance investigations for excitement and political relevance.
