Air Force One (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Air Force One is a 1997 action movie starring Harrison Ford as the President of the United States, and directed by Wolfgang Petersen.
The movie revolves around the plan of a group of Russian Nationalists to hijack the presidential aircraft (Air Force One) and use the President, his family and other hostages as bargaining chips in the terrorists' demand for the release of their comrade, an imprisoned general who they believe can restore Russia to glory.
"Air Force One" is actually the call sign of any airplane in which the President rides (in fact the rescue plane at the end changes its call sign to Air Force One, signaling to the cabinet in Washington that the President is safely on board).

Air Force One - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One of the most dramatic episodes aboard Air Force One happened on September 11, 2001, when it flew President George W. Bush from Sarasota, Florida, where he was interrupted at an education event because of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.
Air Force One is a prominent symbol of the presidency and its power; after the White House, it is probably the most recognized Presidential institution.
Air Force One has been featured in other films (Independence Day, Superman, and Escape from New York, which also featured the non-existent escape pod), books (The President's Plane is Missing), and TV series (The West Wing, 24 and NCIS).

Air Force One includes a few extras, but the prime attraction is an audio commentary from director Wolfgang Petersen.

As it is, the movie is a roller coaster ride for those who prefer not to think once the theater lights have dimmed.
There are numerous occasions during Air Force One when Petersen ratchets the tension up to a level where the viewer is likely to forget the imbecilic plot contrivances that have gotten the situation to this point, and just enjoy the action and adventure.

Unbeknownst to the President and his fellow Air Force One passengers, the group of men aren't journalists at all, but instead an elite team of terrorists bent on taking the president hostage.
The result is a film that displays the inner sanctums of Air Force One with stunning accuracy, providing the audience with a glimpse into the actual traveling life of the most powerful man in the world.

Air Force One, the 1997 summer hit directed by Wolfgang Petersen (The Boat/Das Boot, In The Line of Fire) and starring Harrison Ford as President James Marshall, stretches the term "willing suspension of disbelief" to its limits, yet, incredibly, it works.
Marshall, who by happenstance is separated from his family and staff during the takeover, must use his military training (he's a former Air Force pilot) and his wits to regain control of Air Force One and rescue the hostages before the terrorists achieve their aims.
I did find the movie quite realistic in a way, as with Harrison Ford playing the president, and not knowing the number to phone through to the White House (someone else must do all this stuff for the presidents.) And it was good stuff having the vice president as a women.

AIR FORCE ONE is about the hijacking of the president's jet by Russian radicals, as he is returning from Moscow and the ouster (by covert operation) and imprisonment of General Alexander Radek, a Red renegade seeking to overthrow the legitimate (but largely ineffective) government of Russia.
This movie is a damn good action film that generally avoids insulting the intelligence of the viewer.
And unlike most terrorists in action movies (you know, the "mad Arab" types), Oldman's Korshunov actually has some valid points, and at times it is difficult not to buy his argument that the two men are not really all that different beneath the surface.

Because the movie is so absurd, Newman (being Newman) wrote a score that simply mocks the visuals; unfortunately for him, the director caught him playing this dangerous game, and fired him.

Air Force One is hijacked by a group of terrorists seeking the release of their leader, and while the plane races towards disaster, the President himself sets out to save his family and retake control.
The terrorists then think that the President has escaped via an escape pod (which Air Force One doesn't have in real life) but say okay because they still have his family, the First Lady (Wendy Crewson) and their daughter, the looking-awfully-old-for-a-12-year-old daughter (Liesel Matthews).
Air Force One does have some reality flaws, but it doesn't matter because it has great action, a great cast, and Harrison Ford as the President of the United States.

Their progress would be blocked in the middle of the airplane by a massive area of structure called the wing center section.
The timing would have to be precise, not to mention being able to spot the missile, change course, set up the approach, and stop a 40,000 lb fighter on a dime (considering all this would have to happen in approximately 10 seconds or less).
Almost every AAM (air to air missile) has a blast fragmentation warhead, so this would still do massive damage to AF1, more so than what occurred in the film, even while having an F-15 in the path of it.

Air Force One movie review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
The plot is simplistic, and would've worked better if the villains weren't based in the former Soviet Union: Air Force One, the official air transportation for the President of the United States, is hijacked by a group of terrorists (it's what the big army calls the little army).
What would've made this movie more realistic is if the same situation had occurred but someone else other than the President had saved the plane, held hostage by someone seeking to use its capacity for destruction.
While the movie is worth watching/renting, I thought it was a bit too long, and I found the ending escape scene through a wire transfer a bit unnecessary and hokey.
