ATA works to assist its member companies to promote safety, cost effectiveness, and technological advancements within the airline industry, as well as unifying and presenting common industry-wide positions.
ATA's structure is ideally set up to deal with these issues and includes multiple councils, committees, and task forces all of which include experts from our member airlines, thus ensuring that all issues concerning the airline industry are quickly and skillfully dealt with.
As the connection between the airline industry and the U.S. Congress, ATA looks forward to its responsibilities and will work hard to ensure that the nation's air transportation system is kept among the safest modes of transport in the world.

It is the successor to the International Air Traffic Association, founded in The Hague in 1919, the year of the world's first international scheduled services.

ATA has been working closely with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other federal agencies to ensure that the airline industry remains fully informed of government plans and is prepared to assist in limiting the spread of this or any other communicable disease.
ATA will continue to work with CDC on the issue of passenger contact tracing through an ongoing voluntary airline initiative as well as by providing comments on CDC’s recent proposed rulemaking.
There are no special precautions necessary for air travel – the risk of infection may actually be lower in an airplane than in other similar indoor spaces, due to the air circulation and filtration system.
