The Air and Space Campaign Medal was authorized by the Secretary of the Air Force, Dr. James G. Roche on April 24, 2002.
A bronze medal one and three-eighths inches in diameter consisting of a terrestrial globe superimposed by an eagle, wings displayed, standing upon a shield, all encircled by four trajectories, above and below, and from each side of the globe and terminating upon it in delta-shaped airfoils.
The ribbon to the Air and Space Campaign Medal consists of a central stripe of brittany blue edged in white pinstripes, followed on each side by a pinstripe of brittany blue, a wider stripe of ultramarine blue, a pinstripe of scarlet, and an edgestripe of brittany blue.

The Air and Space Campaign Medal is a decoration of the United States Air Force which was first created in April 2002 by order of Secretary of the Air Force John Roche.
The decoration is intended as an Air Force campaign medal which may be issued for certain operations, as directed by the Air Force Chief of Staff, for which no other campaign medal is authorized.

The Medal of Honor, for example, counts 15 points, the DFC counts for seven, and the Air Medal, three.

The ASCM is awarded for providing direct support at home station or from outside the geographic area of combat for 30 consecutive or 60 cumulative days to a significant U.S. military operation designated by the chief of staff of the Air Force as qualified for the medal after March 24, 1999.
There are other ways to receive the medal, such as being engaged in actual combat during an armed engagement, being wounded or injured in the line of duty and requiring medical evacuation, or being regularly assigned aircrew member flying sorties into, out of, within or over the area of eligibility in support of military operations.
All medals and ribbons are available for wear immediately after verification, even though some medals won't be coded in the personnel system until later this year.

The bronze star represents participation in campaign or operations, multiple qualifications, or an additional award to any of the various ribbons on which authorized.
The silver star is worn in the same manner as the bronze star, but each silver star is worn in lieu of five bronze stars.

(a) Kosovo air campaign (24 March 99 - 10 June 99) aoe: the total land area and air space of Serbia (including Kosovo), Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy and Slovenia; and the waters and air space of the Adriatic and Ionian sea north of the 39th north latitude.
One bronze service star shall be worn on the suspension and service ribbon of the Kosovo campaign medal for qualified participation (per para 3) during each campaign period (i.e., an individual who participated (para 3) in one campaign would wear the medal and/or service ribbon with one star).
A campaign streamer is authorized for the Kosovo air campaign and the Kosovo defense campaign.

The ASCM may be awarded to members of the USAF who, after 24 Mar 1999, supported a significant US military operation designated by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force as qualifying for the ASCM.
A second or subsequent award of the ASCM isonly authorized to individuals who supported a separated ASCM approved operation, provided the member meets the critera for each.
Multiple awards of the ASCM for support of the same operation is not authorized.

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. ­- Chief Master Sgt. William A. Redman, superintendent of the Logistics and Systems Directorate, Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), recently retired from the Air Force after serving for 30 years.
All 30-year Air Force careers are an outstanding accomplishment, however, Chief Redman's service is especially noteworthy as he is only the fifth chief master sergeant to retire from the technical applications specialist (9S100) career field with 30 years of service.
Chief Redman began his Air Force career in December 1974, after completing basic military training at Lackland AFB, Texas, and the nuclear weapons specialist course at Lowry AFB, Colo. He was then assigned to Grand Forks AFB, ND.
