 Inventor of the Week: Archive
Carrier's invention not only provided comfort at home, but also allowed for the controlled conditions necessary in many environments: industrial and scientific (as for the production of many chemicals and pharmaceuticals), and even artistic (as with the protection of fine art at museums).
Carrier's air conditioner used a low-pressure, centrifugal system to take in air through a filter, then pass the air over coils containing a stable, non-toxic coolant; the cooled and dehumidified air was directed into the living or work space, while the warm air circulating around the machines motor was vented outdoors.
Carrier's air conditioner is an invention without which, on a very practical level, it would be difficult for us to imagine everyday life.

Foreign Air Carrier Family Support Act of 1997 FAQ (5/15/98)
The carrier physically operating the aircraft in a code-share situation is the entity which must file and implement the plan, since 49 U.S.C. §41313(b) requires a foreign air carrier to submit a plan to cover accidents which "involve an aircraft under the control of the foreign air carrier..." (emphasis added).
However, as noted in (4) above, we would expect such a carrier to assist in the implementation of its code-share partner’s plan in the event of an accident, to the extent that the carrier is in possession of passenger identity or other information critical to the successful implementation of its partner’s plan.
Affiliated carriers may work together to devise a common plan to be filed and used by all, but in the event of an accident, the carrier operating the flight has the sole responsibility for the implementation of its plan.
