		Air Commodore Paul Webb, who has died aged 89, was one of the three Spitfire pilots who took part in the shooting down of the first German aircraft attacking a target on British soil.
		He was the assistant air adviser in Ottawa at the time of the acquisition of Canadian-built Sabre fighters for the RAF, which were ferried across the Atlantic during Operation Becher's Brook, which commenced on December 9 1952 and ended exactly a year later with the delivery of the 400th aircraft.
		He was the air adviser to the British High Commissioner in India and one of his final appointments was as the British representative on the Nato Intelligence Committee.

		Commodore is a military rank used in some navies for officers whose position exceeds that of a Captain, but is less than that of a Flag Officer.
		The rank of Commodore derives from the French commandeur, which was one of the highest ranks in orders of knighthood, and in military orders the title of the knight in charge of a commenda (a local part of the order's territorial possessions).
		In 1783, commodores of the first class were allowed to wear the uniform of a rear admiral, a distinction which continued until the two classes of commodore were consolidated in 1958.

		Air Commodore 'Rex' Boxer, who has died aged 90, was one of the four-strong team of pilots that gave the RAF's most celebrated pre-war aerobatic displays, notably at the Hendon Air Pageant of 1937.
		Donaldson - who later rose to air commodore and became air correspondent of The Daily Telegraph - dispensed with the practice, so enabling the individual pilots in his team to manoeuvre and change positions during a display.
		In 1962 he was appointed the Air Officer Administration at Headquarters Coastal Command and in 1965 he became the Director of Personnel (Air), with responsibility for the career management and appointments of all officer and airmen aircrew.
