Now, no disrespect to any Airborne units past or present, but when you get down to brass tacks, the Airborne qualified soldiers from those units are distinct from every other unit in that their default method of delivery and build-up of combat power is that they parachute ivo the battle.
Feasibly, if a non-tabbed Ranger were to deploy with his Company, Battalion, or TF and was fucked up by enemy fire (wia or worse), and was subsequently medically separated by the Army or receiving full military honors, he'd still have a heap of my respect as making that great sacrifice as a Ranger.
Throughout Ranger history, there have been many 'tip of the spear' elements that were indefinitely attached to the Infantry Divisions as the Commanding General's personal intel collectors, et al.

The 75th Ranger Regiment (Airborne) stems from a regiment of the same name and designation that was part of the United States Army.
This new Ranger unit had cut its teeth in 1980 and then again in 1983 when it participated in the rescue attempt of American hostages in Iran and when they performed their first combat jump during the invasion of Grenada.
In 2002 the Rangers were deployed to Afganahstan after the attacks on the World Trade Center, being one of the first units to deploy to the country and start operating behind enemy lines in true Ranger fashion.
