The purpose of the Basic Airborne Course is to qualify the volunteer (all students volunteer for this school) in the use of the parachute as a means of combat deployment and to develop leadership, self-confidence, and an aggressive spirit through mental and physical conditioning.
The Airborne School instructors are commonly referred to as "Black hats", due to the fl baseball cap with their dress uniform rank insignia and parachutist badge that is the distinguishing part of their uniform.
However, all students within the school are required to call them "Sergeant Airborne" (or Petty Officer Airborne in case of a Navy instructor) Unusual for an Army school, instructors come from the United States Army, United States Marine Corps, United States Navy and United States Air Force.

All Airborne school graduates should have a chance to fill-out a written AAR to turn in for the cadre to utilize in improving the course the day before out-processsing.
You may say "they should already be motivated when they come to jump school" etc. but the fact is many are new to the Army and haven't had the time to go to the library and read a book on the Airborne like a military history fan like myself might.
The Airborne class should tactical road march back with full canteen in left cargo pocket, ankle braces and M1950 case attached to the rucksack on their back, rubber duck M16 rifle in their hands, facing outward.

During Ground and Tower weeks, an Airborne student is instructed on how to properly exit the aircraft, control his descent under canopy, prepare to land and land utilizing a proper parachute landing fall, or PLF.
During Jump Week, an Airborne student must execute five static-line jumps from an altitude of approximately 1,000-1,200 feet to qualify as a Basic Parachutist, thus authorizing the wearing of the Basic Parachutist Badge — or "Jump Wings" — on any of the Army's uniforms.
Airborne School and Robin Sage couldn't have been more different types of Army training, but ultimately they were both fantastic experiences for me. They are basically "internships" in the Army that give practical experience, an insight into the Army, build confidence and hone leadership.

You MIGHT be able to get Airborne school again in the future since you were dropped for medical reasons, but slots fill fast and it can be hard to get one again.
Graduating from Airborne School is more important than getting drunk with an old buddy and looking for some ass, so keep your priorities straight.
In BAC (Basic Airborne Course AKA Airborne School), I think there were either three or five runs that actually were counted, you could fall out of one run and not get dropped from class, however the five mile run is mandatory.

I have heard people say they are "Airborne Rangers" and I have also heard of people who are "Ranger Qualified" but have not attended Airborne School.
Now, no disrespect to any Airborne units past or present, but when you get down to brass tacks, the Airborne qualified soldiers from those units are distinct from every other unit in that their default method of delivery and build-up of combat power is that they parachute ivo the battle.
The Army uses Airborne school an awful lot as an incentive/enticement for enlistment and reenlistment...and so non-combat arms officers have at least something on their uniform for credibility.
