Scotland on Sunday has learned that Airdrie United have the solid backing of at least seven of the 27 full member SFL clubs - halfway to the target of 14 which they need to gain election to the league.
Though members of the South of Scotland League, they play their football in an English league and are desperate to come home, but smallish crowds and distance from the other clubs may count against them.
