		Airmyn was part of the generous endowment - 'from Usfleet to Airmine' - that Henry I (1100 - 1135) gave to the monks of St. Mary's Abbey at York.
		Airmyn school is one sign of this, for it was built in 1834 and remains in use today.
		Airmyn today faces two threats: steadily the River rises higher (or it may be that with the rest of the east coast Airmyn itself is getting lower) and the threat from high tides demands steadily higher defences.
