 Bay Area Radio Airplay
Music radio stations only hear from their listeners on two occasions: when they want to request a song and when they have a question about the identity of a song (okay, they also call when there’s a contest).
Radio’s solution is to display information about a song in real time as you listen to it.
YES Networks (yes.com) has done just that for radio stations that are already electronically monitored: It compiles and updates a station’s real-time playlist for the past 24 hours (there’s a 15-minute delay between the time a song airs and when its ID appears).

Hot Dance Airplay - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hot Dance Airplay is a monitored dance music radio chart that is featured weekly in both Billboard magazine and its sister publication Billboard Radio Monitor.
If a song is tied for the most spins in the same week, the one with the biggest increase that previous week will rank higher, but if both songs show the same amount of spins regardless of detection the song that is being played at more stations is ranked higher.
The chart made its debut on October 17, 2003 with "Just The Way You Are" by Milky being the first number one song.

While the written agreement between Chancellor and A&M did not mention airplay of the song, under the specific circumstances involving KHKS(FM), we conclude that airplay of the record became part of the quid pro quo for the consideration the station received from A&M. That conclusion is based upon Mr.
Poleman that while he did not think the song would be a hit, he would consider playing the song and having Bryan Adams appear at the station's Christmas concert.
Cook stated that he added the song to the station's rotation "due to this pressure from Armstrong." The decision to add the song deviated from Mr.

Billboard Hot 100 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Three of the era's biggest songs eventually did chart, but only after Billboard changed the airplay-only policy, well after the songs had reached their peak at radio: "Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls, "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia and "Are You That Somebody?" by Aaliyah.
The song appeared as the number one song in the print edition of Billboard magazine on the very first week airplay-only singles were allowed to chart.
In the Beatles' case, many songs of theirs originally licensed to smaller labels prior to their popularity explosion were re-released once Beatlemania kicked in, thus technically "breaking" their number one streaks, although many argue these were not official releases of the time and thus the straight run remains.

Its number eight peak on the Hot 100 Airplay chart was higher than those of her past singles, and it became her best showing since "Always Be My Baby" (1996) on that chart.
Carey and Junior Vasquez created dance remixes of the song that include interpolations of the disco song "If You Should Ever Be Lonely".

 Weaver's UK Music Charts - November 1999
Though it could only reach #31 in a quiet February, the song has remained an airplay staple, coming out just often enough to remind everyone of how brilliant it is. Tintinout's is the first cover version, and it reinforces the notion that one cannot do a completely rubbish version of a classic song.
The song projects a big city, late at night, and received hyper-enthusiastic airplay on London's breakfast show.
This is another example of the genre- unusually, not a cover of a country number - and possibly their weakest song for a very long time.

Cool (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The song's musical style, and its production by Austin, were heavily inspired by pop music from the 1980s, and its lyrics chronicle a relationship in which two lovers have separated, but remain "cool" with each other as good friends.
Although "Cool" was officially solicited to radio on July 5, 2005 in North America, it charted a week early on the Billboard Pop 100 Airplay chart, debuting within the top fifty.
When Stefani was asked about the song, she responded, "Dallas Austin heard my song 'Underneath It All' and got inspired to write a new song called 'Cool', which he could never finish about his girlfriend and all the bullshit of breaking up, and how he wanted it to be okay.

The song, which still receives its fair share of airplay, struck a chord with individuals across the country who had recently lost loved ones.
THE ESCAPE CLUB, originating in the UK, ironically made a name for themselves with the release of the song "Wild, Wild West" (from the album of the same name) which flew to number 1 in the US before anyone in the band had ever set foot on American soil.
The success of the band’s "Wild, Wild West" single was nothing in comparison to the public reaction to the release of the song "I'll Be There," from their second album Dollars and Sex, which was written in memoriam of a friend of the band’s wife.

 Ectophiles' Guide - Melissa Ferrick
Melissa's song "The Juliana Hatfield Song" is extremely witty and funny, and gets lots of airplay on college stations, but it's never been on an official album.
The song "Freedom" has powerful lyrics, but it's slow and one of the weaker songs on the CD, in my opinion.

mediageek: It Takes A Poll to Add An Anti-War Song
The simple fact is that the modern rock station added the Beastie's song because it's getting airplay across the country on modern rock stations and in the radio industry it's certain death to be left behind on a soon-to-be popular song.
So, one might argue that their station's decision to add an anti-war song to the playlist is evidence that the pro-war stance is not a corporate-mandated one, but truly the result of individual station initiative.
So you might hear a protest song from the Beastie Boys, but I can all but guarantee that you won't hear ones from otherwise less commercially proven artists, or artists that are more past their commercial prime.
