Through the latter, Moreira met and played with such stars as Cannonball Adderley, Lee Morgan, Paul Desmond and Joe Zawinul, the last-named recommending the percussionist to Miles Davis in 1970, resulting in his appearing on Bitches Brew, Live/Evil and On the Corner, among other recordings.
Moreira and Purim’s first venture together as leaders, however, was Fingers, formed in 1974, and since then they have carved out a special niche for themselves with their unique mixture of jazz, Brazilian music and fusion, frequently under the rubric Fourth World, a band featuring Club favourite, guitarist José Neto, and saxophonist Gary Meek.
