Yamaguchi (山口市 Yamaguchishi) is the capital city of Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.
April 1, 1944: Yamaguchi (1st Generation) merged with Ōtoshi, Hirakawa, Aiofutajima, Natajima, Sue, Ogōri, Ajisu, Kagawa and Sayama to form the new city of Yamaguchi (2nd Generation).
October 1, 2005: Yamaguchi (2nd Generation) merged with the remaining parts of Yoshiki District (Dissolved by this action) and the town of Tokuji from Saba District (also dissolved by this action) to form the 3rd city of Yamaguchi.

On 27 July 2002 the eagerly awaited Yamaguchi Prefectural Kirara Sports Exchange Park opened at Kirara Beach at Ajisu, the site of the 21st Century Future Exposition 'Kirara Expo Yamaguchi' held in 2001.
Covering a broad area of some 43 hectares, the facility includes a multi-purpose dome, soccer and rugby fields, a sports ground, a 'Lunar Sea' beach sports area, a 'Solar Hill' play equipment and lawn area and a 'Trim Square' adventure course.
The nickname for Yamaguchi's first domed indoor sports area is 'Kirara Healthy Dome'.
