  Tokyo Travel: Akihabara
Akihabara (short: Akiba) is a district in central Tokyo, famous for its many electronics shops.
The result are several new buildings such as the Akihabara Dai Building (opened in spring 2005), Akihabara UDX (opened in spring 2006) and Yodobashi Akiba Building (opened in autumn 2005).
Akihabara Station is a busy station on the Yamanote Line loop, served by the JR Yamanote Line, JR Keihin-Tohoku Line, JR Sobu Line, the Tsukuba Express and the Hibiya Subway Line.

Akihabara (秋葉原) is Tokyo's "Electric Town", located on the eastern side of the central Chiyoda ward.
Akihabara is centralized around Akihabara station (located on the JR Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku, and Chuo lines), just take the conveniently labelled "Akihabara Electric Town" exit to be dropped in the middle of the action.
Getting to Akihabara by subway is also quite easy; travel to either the Akihabara or Suehirocho subway station on the Metro Hibiya line.

Akihabara get's freakier in my eyes everytime we go there.
About 5 years ago Akihabara was mainly a place for electronics otaku but now that the porno game/gaming in genral and anime community has taken over it has become a freak free for all.
Akihabara is by far not as "doomed" as harajuku and its nearabouts.

One of the coolest things I found in Akihabara this trip was the Osamu Tezuka World temporary store.
Seven years ago, Akihabara had many, many toys -- er, I mean, electronic devices -- that were unavailable in the U.S. I found that isn't nearly so true anymore.

Well, there's this junior high in Akihabara, which, for the uninitiated, is the district in Tokyo where they sell all those high-tech goodies that the rest of the world can only drool over.
That's the premise of Cyber Team in Akihabara, which is an insidiously cute show with a generally fun plot, and a surprisingly deep premise, that really doesn't distinguish itself from the shoujo pack other than that.
In fact, Cyber Team in Akihabara is quite fun to watch, and packs plenty of humor and camp in its episodes, though some of it has actually been excised from the North American release.

 Radio Shopping in Akihabara
A business trip to Tokyo in March 2004 gave me the opportuntity to have a look around Akihabara the well known "Electronics City" of Tokyo.
This shop is the nearest to the JR Akihabara station but easy to miss as it is in a narrow alley surrounded by general electronics shops.
I was happy to pick up a GHD GN507DX paddle from the Ham Geppan store in Akihabara.

I spent some of last month in Tokyo and took time out to make a trip to Akihabara, the (in)famous ward of Tokyo which houses most of Japan's otaku and a great number of Japan's largest game and electronics stores.
I arrived on a Friday afternoon and took most of the early evening out to mooch around the stores which are found Akihabara's main street, just a few minutes walk away from the JR Akihabara train station (which is itself a 20-minute journey from the central Tokyo Station).
For dinner I nipped into an Akihabara branch of Mos Burger, a Japanese chain of fast-food joints which is by its own declaration the "mos' delicious burger!" A set meal is small but tasty; Y600 for a burger or hot dog of any description, along with fries and onion rings and a drink.

For some reason Akihabara has always been a blank spot on restaurant maps of Tokyo - shoppers visiting the hundreds of electronic shops have had to make do with the odd coffee shop or ramen counter when they get hungry.

There are no other tourist destinations here (the city itself is a tourist destination) and I don't know the historical relevance of the area, but it is a neat place to be.
The area called Akihabara around the station consists of one main street running North-South and a maze of smaller cross streets.

Akihabara has nothing on small-country towns when it comes to retro games.
The one in Akihabara is the one where I found Chrono Trigger, but that store is still awesome.
