		Taking a close look at Akira Class, one can see a hull design that in some ways resembles the older Miranda shape, and hails from lineage perpetuated by Loknar, Compton and Nautilus Classes, indeed the basic configuration can be traced back to some early Starfleet ships such as the P Class and NX Class Cruisers.
		The Akira fleet faired very well in recent Dominion engagements, although more than ten were lost during the recent defence of yet another Borg incursion into Federation space.

This is a very sleek ship, and, like the Prometheus, features the newer triangular style saucer section (we won't be able to call them "saucers" much longer!), and is basically a one piece hull.
		Instead of nacelles, the ship has a single blue glowing engine block on the underside, and two small pods, possibly conventional warp engines, extending to the rear.

		I have got the game Star Trek: Bridge Commander and the Akira class is in it with Quantum torpedoes I added this informasjon to the article but someone deleted it.
		If the Akira was designed off of the NX because of the need of a smaller, faster ship to combat the growing threat of the Dominion, it would have had to come into service after the discovery of the Jem'Hadar.
		Unfortunetly, the Akira came into service in 2368, and the episode where the Jem'Hadar are found (The Jem'Hadar) does not take place until 2370.

		Which is why I would say that Akira is, at best, a TRANSPORT for fighters from one location to another, capable of getting them and their support equipment to their area of operation faster than they could get there on their own.
		I figure this would be secondary to Akira's normal role, using large screens of shuttles over a wide area spreading a tachyon detection net or something of that nature, waiting for something to trip the alarm.
		Starship sensors are apparently capable of locking on to individual life forms on a planet from orbit, and precise enough to beam them aboard without taking a piece of the rock face next to them.
