 Shri Akshobhya Teertharu
Shripad Akshobhya Teertharu was born in 1159 Sakabja Era (1238 AD) and was the last of Madhwa's direct disciples to sit on the Vedanta Pitha.
In the year 1336 AD., Shri Akshobhya Teertharu had a scholarly disputation with Shri Vidyaranya on the interpretation of the "Tatvam-asi" ("You are the same as" or "I am that") 'Shruthi' text.
Empowered by Akshobhya Teertharu he caused such a stir by even pointing out the differences in the basic understandings of 'Adwaita' philosophy of their own leading Sankarites like Vacaspati, Vivarankara, Amalananda, Citsukha and Vijnanashana, giving further strength to the Vaishnavas truths and making the 'mayavadis' all look all the more foolish.

The same gesture is also associated with Akshobhya, one of the five great cosmic Buddhas central to the iconography of early Tibetan Buddhism.
The position of the Buddha's other hand, with his thumb and middle finger pressed together in an unusual gesture is not associated with the Historic Buddha and seems to support the identification of the sculpture as Akshobhya.

He also gave 'ashrama' to Sri Akshobhya Tirtha and installed him as the Pith Adipatya or pontiff of Sri Uttaradi Mutt to worship the idols/Deities which were personally worshipped by Srimad Acharya (Madhwa) himeself.

Jayadharma Muni was one of Rajendra’s many disciples and Vishnu Puri, the author of Bhakti-ratnavali and Purushottama the lover of Brahmin culture became his disciples.
In the Madhvaite tradition, Padmanabha, Nrihari, Madhava and Akshobhya are all considered to be direct disciples of Madhva, rather than being links of a historic chain.
