	Ale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Ale is a beer style brewed from barley malt with a top fermenting brewers yeast that ferments quickly, giving a sweet, full body and a fruity, and sometimes a butter-like taste.
		There is an American-style brown ale as well, created during the early 1980s by homebrewers, and most prominently commercially represented by Pete's Wicked Ale; it is similar to the English original, though substantially hoppier.
		German ales tend to be fermented at a somewhat lower temperature, and have more body than British or Belgian ales due to differences in mashing process; the traditional German decoction mash tends to create more oligosaccharides to provide body to the beer.

		Traditionally a strong beer, the alcohol content is increased by freezing the beer and removing the ice that forms, As alcohol has a lower freezing point than water, it's left behind in a higher concentration.
		Ales differ from lagers as their yeast remains on the top of the fermenting liquid and they ferment at higher temperatures.

		The most common question I hear about beer is: "What's the difference between beer and ale?" Many beer drinkers seem to be hazy about the distinction, a sure sign that brewers haven't done a good job of explaining their product.
		At this time, a distinction (at least in England) arose between traditional unhopped "ales" (which were noble and good) and the newfangled foreign "beers" which were probably going to ruin civilization as they knew it.
