Al Fatihah, the essence of the Quran, in its meaning integrates all the fundamentals of the religious knowledge mankind must learn and put in practice.
On account of the excellence of the artistic arrangement of the verses in the highest literary style, by using not only the sound of the words but also investing in them the glory of inimitable beauty and all-encompassing meaningfulness, this surah is admired and exalted even by the opponents of Islam.
Any intelligent reader of al Fatihah can easily conceive the wonderful effect it creates on the mind of the reciter who repeats it several times in each of the daily prayers, if it is sincerely rendered with thoughtful close attention.

Al Fatihah is called “Salah” because reciting it is a condition for the correctness of Salah – the Prayer.
Al Fatihah is also called Ash-Shifa” (The Cure).  It is also called Al-Ruqyah (remedy), since in the Sahih there is the narration of Abu Sa’id telling the story of the Companion who used Al Fatihah as a remedy for the tribal chief who was poisoned.
Al Fatihah was revealed in Makkah as Ibn ‘Abbas, Qatadah, and Abu Al-‘Aliyah stated.

Before I begin my analysis of the Surah 1: Al Fatihah (The Opening), I should mention what tools I’m working with.
For those not familiar with Ali, he is a staunchly orthodox muslim: this is a book that devout muslims who speak english and not arabic would use.
Al Fatihah is the first surah in the Qur’an for a reason; it is by far the most recited portion of the text.

For Adults there is a Taleem Class on Sundays from 9:30 A.M to 1:00 P.M at Al- Fatihah Center
For Adults and Children there is a Tafseer-ul Quran class on Fridays after Maghrib prayer at AL-Hidayaa Center.

 Reciting Fatihah Behind the Imam
Now, here we have two hadith - one referring to al-Fatiha as the seven oft-repeated verses, and the other referring to Umm ul-Kitaab as the seven oft-repeated verses.
Ibn Hajr al-'Asqalani in Fath ul-Bari (his classic commentary on the Sahih al-Bukhari) says that at-Tabarani related by two good chains on the authority of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab and 'Ali ibn Abi Taalib (may Allah be pleased with them both) a hadith in which the Prophet(SAWS) said, "The seven oft-repeated verses is the Fatihah."
Thus, Imam ash-Shaafi'i concluded that the Mother of the Book must in fact be a synonym for Surah al-Fatihah.
