To the north of this is a relatively new (1870) Mosque of Sayyidna al-Hussein (71).
Across the street is the Ahmed Pasha Sabil (73), while to the south of the Al-Hussein mosque is the new al-Azhar Park, a mega project that has transformed the surrounding neighborhoods as well as adding needed greenery to the City.
The southern one is the Mosque of al-Ashraf Barsbey (circa 1425 AD) (also known as the Ashrafiya Medersa) (72), which is a complex consisting of a mosque-medersa, a mausoleum and sabil-kuttab, while the northern one is the Mosque of al-Mutahhar (73) (circa 1744 AD) built by Abd el-Rahman Katkhuda.

 Al Hakim Mosque, Egypt
This, the second Fatimids mosque in Cairo, was situated outside the old walls of the city, until Badr Al-Gamali brought it within by constructing the north wall (extending from Bab AL-Nasir to Bab Al-Futuh), in contact with its northern façade.
The Mosque of Al-Hakim measures nearly 120 x 113 Meter and has several entrances besides the main one in the middle of the west façade; the most important of these are two to the left and two to the right of main entrance and one in the centre of the north and south façades.
Brick was used in both mosques, except that the outer walls of al- Hakim's are built of partly dressed stone (talatat).

Although started by Caliph Al-Aziz in 990, the mosque, as referred to in the name, was completed by Al-Hakim Bi Amrillah (the ruler by the orders of God) who ruled between 996-1021 inheriting the throne from his father al-Aziz (975-996) and grandfather, Caliph Muizz (953-75).
The other original feature of the mosque consists of the two minarets, which despite the newly added sections they represent the oldest surviving examples of the Fatimid period, both raised high at the corners of the north western wall but of differing designs.
Many of the remaining parts of the mosque still retain much of their original character, sections of the prayer hall with their piers and arches, for example, as well as the mihrab dome survived almost intact.
