		Al fashioned or arranged junk and garbage into innumerable artworks and a limited number of "signature" figures: wave forms and stark, model towers out of burnt matches and glue, robots, an endless stream of Hershey bar wrapper Goddess Venuses, and other Venuses made entirely of cigarette butts and glue.
		Beck and Al Hansen's respective artwork remains true to the feeling that nothing is beneath their notice, or, as Henry Martin has remarked about Fluxus artists, just about everything is worth being looked at or listened to or toyed with.

		Hansen’s oeuvre is simultaneously captivating and mysterious, a bit rough and ironic, blending the visual and literary arts.
		Don’t get me wrong: Al Hansen is a “naïve-educated” artist who learned from the best—such as Kurt Schwitters—and was also was inspired by the found objects and day-old newspapers he recycled from the trash heap.
		Hansen’s live performances, sometimes aided by inebriation or self-induced trance, were recently recreated at the Andrea Rosen Gallery during an event organized by daughter Bibbe Hansen entitled “3rd Rail Revisited,” named for the Third Rail Gallery of Current Art, founded by Hansen in Brooklyn.

	Al Hansen - An Illustrated Bilbliography
		Recently, while organizing materials in the Al Hansen Archive, I came across some intriguing things: limited edition catalogs, books, magazines and other small press items.
		The more recent books and catalogs published since Al's death are provided for reference purposes; other entries are included as curiosities.
		One of his sculptures wears an image of an Al Hansen artwork on his shirt (Chicago Gat Collection: Claes Oldenburg).
