CATALOG: BOOKER T. & THE MGs
Eight albums, excluding "best-of" collections, were issued during the nine too-brief years that keyboardist Booker T. Jones, guitarist Steve Cropper, drummer Al Jackson, Jr., and bassists Lewie Steinberg or Donald "Duck" Dunn recorded as the MGs for Stax Records.
Guitarist Cropper was a member of both bands, and they shared other personnel in the studio, particularly bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn (who replaced original MGs member Lewie Steinberg), drummer Al Jackson, Jr., and keyboardist Booker T. Jones.
Booker T. Jones's mellow-toned organ swells, Steve Cropper's razor-sharp lead and rhythm guitar parts, Duck Dunn's loping bass lines, and Al Jackson, Jr.'s rock-solid drum grooves transform each song into a nicely seasoned slice of Southern soul.

Sadly, Al Jackson Jr died in 1975 and could never be replaced.
Later that year, however, Jackson was tragically shot and killed in his home; reports conflict on whether the culprit was a burglar or his wife.
In 1962, he persuaded Jackson to join Stax Records, where the pair joined guitarist Steve Cropper and (later) bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn to form Booker T. and the MG's, arguably the best house band in history.

However, as I said before, this issue was out there long before 2000 because Jesse Jackson, Sr., Conyers, Maxine Waters and a few others have been trying to tell us all about this flaw in our Constitution...perhaps because Blacks are more sensitive to the voting rights issue.

 Al Smith's Neighborhood
Smith took pictures of the patrons and musicians "in the clubs all along Jackson Street and in the concert and dance halls downtown." He would shoot one weekend and come back the next with the finished black and white prints, selling them for 50 cents or a dollar.
Smith began to take his "hobby" seriously, although he claims he was "doing nothing special, just shooting pictures." He was ready, however, to put himself and his camera to work when Seattle's Jackson Street after hours jazz clubs offered photo opportunities and more during the World War II years.
Lawson subsequently led the research team which included Betty Connelly, Juanita Davis, Frances Demisse, Margaret Hardin, Dorothy Hilbert, Guela Johnson, Lillie Jones, Jeanne Jones, Charlena Mace, Muriel Minnis, John D. Peoples, Marjorie Sharper, Al Smith Jr., Marjorie Sotero, Mary Tanner, the late Leon Vaughn, Klara Winston, and of course, Al Smith himself.

Sharpton threw his sharpest elbow of the campaign after it was reported that Jesse Jackson's son, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., planned to endorse Howard Dean.
Sharpton had a defamation judgment against him in the case, but he stood by his smear and responded with a fusillade of obfuscation that eventually wore Brokaw down.
Sharpton counts on other candidates and the moderators at the debates being too timid to challenge him on his checkered past and questionable practices, so he can pass himself as respectable.
