Khobar (also written al-Khobar or al-Khubar ; Arabic: الخبر) is a large city located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the Arabian/Persian Gulf.
In earlier days, Khobar was a small port on the Persian Gulf, inhabited mainly by fishermen.
Khobar was, infamously, the location of the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing (the victims were US military personnel) and the 29 May 2004 Al-Khobar massacres (of expatriate employees in their compounds).

The motion for an emergency stay of removal filed by attorney Ivan Yacub with the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington cites the U.N. Convention Against Torture in an attempt to block what was thought to be the forced return of Hani al-Sayegh to his homeland as early as Friday.
