Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Arabic: الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم) (born 1949) is currently the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Ruler of Dubai.
He is the third of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum's four sons.
He was also nominated by the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan, to be the next Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE on January 5, 2006.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum (1943 – 4 January 2006) (Arabic: الشيخ مكتوم بن راشد آل مكتوم) was the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and the emir or ruler of Dubai.
Sheikh Maktoum also briefly served as acting President of the United Arab Emirates on 2-3 November 2004 following the death of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan until Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan was proclaimed and installed as President of the United Arab Emirates on 4 November 2004.
Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al Maktoum died on the morning of 4 January 2006, suffering a heart attack while lodged at Palazzo Versace Hotel located on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

The Al Maktoum family's reign as rulers of Dubai began in 1833, when Sheikh Maktoum bin Buti, and around 800 tribesmen moved from Abu Dhabi.
In 1892, he formed an alliance, through marriage, with the Al Bu Shamis tribe, who were based in Buraimi, a strategically important area at that time, as it was one of the few fertile oases in the country.
