Al Murray - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Al Murray (born Bedford, 1968) is an English comedian best known for his stand-up persona, the Pub Landlord, a xenophobic public house licensee.
Murray's theatre show with this character My Gaff, My Rules was shortlisted for an Olivier Award in 2002, and he has also appeared as the central character in the television series Time Gentlemen Please as well as a number of other television appearances.
Murray is a direct descendant of William Makepeace Thackeray.

Ross Noble / Al Murray | Theatre Reviews | tobyyoung.co.uk
Murray himself is a nice, Oxford-educated, middle-class boy--a direct descendant of Thackeray's--and you get the impression that he's created the Pub Landlord so he can give voice to the kind of jingoistic sentiments he'd never be allowed to utter as himself.
Murray makes various attempts to distance his own persona from the character--he makes it clear, for instance, that the Pub Landlord is a pathetic loser when it comes to the opposite sex--but his heart isn't really in it.
I caught Al Murray at a warm-up gig, honing the material for his forthcoming national tour that begins on October 2.

Al chills out with like-minded professionals such as Harry Hill and Richard Herring and is known to down one or two pints (..and a white wine for the lady.) at the Astro Bar in Fulham.

A member of the Kings organization for the past 15 years, Al Murray is in his 10th season as director of amateur scouting and is directly responsible for the club’s amateur scouting operation, including scheduling, assignments, evaluation of talent and development of the final list of players leading up to the annual NHL Entry Draft.
Murray, 46, began his career with the Kings in 1988 and served as the club’s western scouting coordinator until 1994.
Murray’s coaching career began as coach of the Kemptville Junior B’s and included serving as head coach for two years with the Junior A Ottawa Senators and one season as an assistant at the University of Ottawa in 1981, when Ottawa placed third in the National Championships.

Garbled Communications: Live: Al Murray - And Another Thing Tour 2005
The last time I saw Murray perform it was at the Edinburgh Festival in 2000 and, though the character was still in its formative stage, it was one of the funniest and most wickedly-observed stand-up shows I’ve experienced.
From the moment Murray wheeled onto the stage driving a bizarre mobile bar contraption, to the big finale involving an unorthodox sing-a-long to “I’m A Believer”, this show had the entire venue in stitches.
Perhaps saying more about the audience than Murray himself, it was his “Make Poverty Geography” gag and his boasts about raising money for guide-dogs by organising an illegal charity dog-fight (“one of them was blinded, which was a bit ironic now that I think about it”) that went down particularly well.

London theatre comedy Al Murray The Pub Landlord on stage in London's West End. Theater guide and tickets
"Al Murray, the Pub Landlord, returning for a season at the Playhouse near Charing Cross, is the voice of Little England squire, pulling a pint for the gentleman and a glass of white wine for the lady.
Murray is an original, and his character of the Little Englander publican with the shaved head and the barking-mad opinions completely dominates the stage and creates a fascinatingly ambiguous response in his audience.
Murray's character looks like a prototypical member of the BNP, but unlike Alf Garnett, to whom he's clearly closely related, his prejudices are all safe targets, and the show never strays really dangerously into the realms of the politically incorrect.

 Al Murray Review
Two thing are especially notable about Murray — firstly, he's a character comedian (in fact, the name Al Murray doesn't appear on any of the promotional material for this run).
The second notable aspect of Murray's character is that he's an utter twat.
Some critics argue that Murray's character is a one-trick pony; that knuckle-headed prejudices won't sustain a two-hour show.

Al Murray — The Pub Landlord is set to bring his brand new show to Vicar St. on June 25th for one night only.
Al Murray (The Guv’nor) is back with his fantastic new show and he’s even more opinionated than ever.
Al Murray’s character (The Guv’nor) is the archetypal Middle Englander, inflamed, but also petrified of anything outside his field of expertise, which is pretty much everything except for his prized pub and what he reads in the daily mail.

 theatreguide-london-al murray
At first glance, Al's landlord is the very epitome of the great British Bulldog spirit gone to seed, something that wouldn't travel well outside of England let alone the outside world where foreigners and their funny habits lurk.
After all, the more Al concentrates on the very 'Britishness' (well, Englishness is nearer the mark) that creates such a chauvinistic caricature, the closer he gets to striking an international chord.
A man therefore in total control, Murray has a wicked line in audience-baiting so be warned: the front rows - oh, at least the first 20 - are off limits if you don't want your lily-livered lifestyle made public or have a pint glass foisted on you in place of your common-as-muck beer can.

Review: Al Murray - And Another Thing...
Not that you would ever expect Al Murray to be an overtly political comic, tackling the issues of the day head-on.
There are tirades against ‘Muslamic Fundamentaloids,’ a silly runny gag (with a fine climax) about how the gig would sound if conducted in German, a liberal sprinkling of laugh-winning local references and a gloriously over-the-top portrait of Churchill’s drunkenness and ill-health, to name but four highlights.
And Another Thing… turns out to be one of his strongest shows for years, showing that Murray’s flirtation with reality TV and appearing as ‘himself’ on screen have done absolutely nothing to dent his ability where he works best: on the live stage.

James W. Murray: Current Projects - Anoxic and Suboxic Ocean Environments
One of the most intriguing discoveries during that cruise was the suboxic zone (simultaneous low oxygen and low sulfide) of about 50m thickness separating the oxic surface water and the sulfide rich anoxic deep water (Murray et al., 1989; Codispoti et al., 1991; Murray et al., 1995).
The origin of this suboxic zone is uncertain but probably is related to oxidation-reduction reactions involving Mn, Fe, N and S species and the complex horizontal ventilation that occurs at these depths (Murray et al., 1991; Buesseler et al., 1991; Murray, 1995; Lee et al (submitted)).
Recent UW chemistry graduate student, Tamara Nameroff, studied the present day and paleogeochemistry of the redox sensitive elements (Mn, Fe, U, V, Mo, Re) to obtain evidence to evaluate the hypothesis that the oxygen minimum was less intense in the past.
