EL HASA - LoveToKnow Article on EL HASA
HASA, EL (Ahsa, Al Hasa), a district in the east of Arabia stretching along the shore of the Persian Gulf from Kuwet in 29 20' N. to the south point of the Gulf of Bahrein in 25 10' N., a length of about 360 m.
Politically El Hasa is a dependency of Turkey, and its capital Hofuf is the headquarters of the sanjak or district of Nejd.
Here an inexhaustible supply of underground water (to which the province owes its name Hasa) issues in strong springs, marking, according to Arab geographers, the course of a great subterranean river draining the Nejd highlands.

NEONATAL SCREENING FOR SICKLE CELL DISEASE, GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE DEFICIENCY AND -THALASSEMIA IN QATIF AND AL HASA
In the Saudi infants, homozygous sickle cell disease was detected in 2.35% and 1.08% in Qatif and Al hasa, respectively.
The percentage of newborns with sickle cell trait is very high (28.21% and 20.02% in Saudi newborns in Qatif and Al Hasa, respectively), so for the time being cases of sickle cell trait were not informed by phone, but information was left in the mother's chart and parents were informed usually during their postnatal visits.
Conclusion: The outcome of this study indicates that the Saudi populations in Qatif and Al hasa are at risk for hemoglobinopathies and G6PD.

At present, however, Al Hasa's would-be liberators appear cognizant of the limits of their influence and content to use the threat of partition to browbeat the Saudis into obeisance in the "war on terror" and the construction of a new Iraq.
The current plan to "liberate" Al Hasa has its genesis in the post-September 11 bipartisan Washington consensus that Saudi Arabia is, to some degree, a problem in the "war on terror".
Thus intermittent uprisings have erupted since Al Hasa was incorporated into the Saudi realm in 1913, most recently after the Shi'ite Iranian revolution emboldened their co-religionists throughout the Persian Gulf.

 Discussion: 30. Zared ? - (al-Hasa ?)
If we accept the relative topographical accuracy of the map, the Wadi Hasa is not the best candidate for the Zared because its eastern end is distant from Charachmoba and it flows south of the Sanctuary of Lot and Zoara.
A closer examination of the surviving portions of the southeastern end of the Dead Sea on the map hints that a river was depicted in the place of Wadi Hasa, but its ancient name has not survived.
A ground survey of the other wadis in the area shows that either the Wadi Karak or Wadi 'Isal would more accurately fit the location of the Zared on the map.
