 Khidr in the Islamic Tradition
Khidr is one of the four prophets whom the Islamic tradition recognizes as being ‘alive’ or ‘immortal’.
Overall, the episode of Khidr in the Qur’ān is a reflection and representation of the paradoxes of life.
Khidr had thus come to symbolize “the third path” to the knowledge of God, purely and constantly supernatural, giving acces to the divine mystery (ghayb) itself.

Al-Khidr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Al-Khidr is also spelled as Khidr, Khezr, Khadir, Khizr, Al-Khadir, and El-Khidr.
Moses is mentioned in the Muslim text; the Qur'an, like many of the Prophets Muslim theology shares with People of the Book.
It is recommended to review the Muslim view on intercession before reading the links below.

Khidr is the master of all these, because he shows each one how to attain the spiritual state which he himself has attained and which he typifies...
Since Khidr means "green", he is conceptualized as connceted with resumption of growth in the spring, and as a bringer of affluence, fertility and happiness.
Muslim tradition makes Khidr the master of all who seek a mystic truth, which is inherently superior to and quite different from the God which is the same as everybody elses but to a God who is in the deepest sense of the word subjective.

 Idris and Al Khidr
Idris, Enoch, al Khidr and Hermes all seem to be one person.
Ali al Hujwiri in Khashf al Mahajab writes of such a hierarchy; "Besides the Qutb or Axis of the Universe, are three called Ifuqaba, four Awtad, seven Abrar".
In western Asia, Moslem or Hindu symbolic art shows the Saint, Al Khizr, dressed in a green coat being carried on top of the water by a fish which conveys him over the river of life.

Khidr is identical with St. George, who originated in Persia and was adopted sometime around 1350 as patron saint of the imitative [sic -- "initiative"?] chivalric Order of the Garter under King Edward III.
There are many other derivations from this root, including Khidr, patron saint of the Sufi groups known as halkas, or circles of thirteen.
The name of the Sufi saint Khidr also means 'the Green One' -- green being the Sufi traditional color signifying initiation.

The rituals that have grown round Khidr here are however somewhat different from those existing in other parts of the Muslim world and show considerable South Indian influence, especially with regard to customs such as the flag-hoisting which constitutes an integral part of the local tradition.
The sanctity attached to the place by local Muslims revolves round not on Skanda, but a mysterious being called Al-Khidr or 'The Green One' whose presence is believed to pervade the sanctuary with which he is associated, namely, the Khalir Makam in the Muslim quarter of Kataragama not far from the Menik Ganga.
This shrine is known as Khalir Makam or 'Khidr's Sanctuary' as it is believed that Khidr resides here.

The association of Khidr with water is maintained throughout the hagiographical and anecdotal corpus.
Indeed, Khidr's third act in the Koranic tale is not a destruction, but a construction, a renovation as it were.
