Sarangani Province’s history dates back to the turn of the 15th Century when Sarip Kabungsuan of Arabia arrived in Cotabato Province in Mindanao to introduce Islam with the help of religious teachers.
Sarangani Province constitutes the seven municipalities formerly under South Cotabato Province, such as the coastal municipalities of Glan, Alabel, Malapatan, Kiamba, Maasim, and Maitum and the upland Municipality of Malungon.
Of the total land area of Sarangani, it is estimated that about 12% are considered pasture land, 68% are forest lands, and 20% are croplands and the built-up areas are incorporated in this land classification which covers 2% of the total land area.

In a 10-page resolution, the Comelec's second division upheld Dominguez' candidacy as it ruled that the latter is a resident of Sarangani for at least one year before the May 10 synchronized national and local elections.
"The fact that the respondent is a registered voter of Alabel, Sarangani Province, with the additional circumstance that he filed his certificate of candidacy, therein, is an affirmation, and indicative of his being a resident of the said locality," the Comelec ruling said.
In his petition, Escobar claimed the 27-year old Dominguez is a resident and registered voter of Matina, Davao City and applied for a transfer of his voter's registration record to Alabel, Sarangani only on Dec. 13, 2001 and was eventually approved by the Comelec on Jan. 9, 2002.

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -­ Health officials in Sarangani province have pressed the alarm button over the prevalence of the deadly dengue hemorrhagic fever in Alabel town that has continued to increase over the last six weeks.
