Alain Caron is a Canadian jazz musician born in Saint-Éloi, Quebec, the youngest of 11 children.
Luthier George Furlanetto of F Bass in Hamilton, Ontario, has built basses for Alain for 20 years.
Furlanetto worked together with Caron to develop the they F Bass Alain Caron model (AC5), which has the tone of a solidbody fretless with the dynamic characteristics of an acoustic guitar.

I would have liked to hear Caron break into a few more solos or add an odd flurry of notes here and there to spice things up.
Although each track sounds entirely unique, the “she shot me down” theme runs throughout the album and is illustrated with bluesy guitar riffs, piano and even some string work.

I've had the misfortune of playing fretless bass on sessions in which the engineer's sole concept of proper bass equalization was to use the classic “smiley face” curve.
This may work fine for getting Motorhead's “Lemmy sound” or even the “Victor Wooten sound,” but it is hardly appropriate for capturing the low- to midrange warmth that characterizes the sounds of fretless players such as Jaco Pastorius, Alain Caron, and Kai Eckhardt.
While I thought that Kevin Smith's “Desktop Musician” article “Conquering the DAW” (June 2004) was very helpful, I felt it overlooked the most helpful resource that I encountered in my own experience with DAWs.
