		Asteroid 4179 Toutatis (formerly 1989 AC) was discovered by C. Pollas on January 4, 1989, at Caussols, France, on photographic plates taken on the 0.9-m Schmidt telescope by Alain Maury and Derral Mulholland during astrometric observations of Jupiter's faint satellites.
		The images revealed Toutatis to be a several-kilometer-long object with a nonconvex shape dominated by two components in contact, one approximately twice as large as the other.

	News from The Amateur Sky Survey: October, 1996
		The stand alone program "Sextractor" that Alain has pointed out to the group also does a very nice job of calculating instrumental magnitudes (in moderatly crouded fields) and can be compiled to run on almost any platfrom.
		It seems that using something like "Sextractor" to compute instrumental magnitudes for stars that are measured on several evenings (from the same location) would be a good way to quickly get a feel for the consistance of measurements from one night to the next.
		Below is a description that Alain was kind enough to provide about how their system in France has implemented something similar.

		The OCA-DLR Asteroid Survey (ODAS) asteroid tracking project, located near Nice in France, stopped observing in April 1999 so it could be refurbished.
